BAUGHMAN, GEORGE, (Franklin Co.)

 

Served in the Pennsylvania Troops and was pensioned from Franklin Co. Born Washington Co, Pennsylvania. Buried at Riverside Cemetery. Grave marked Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912. Came to Ohio in 1807 from Washington, Pennsylvania and located on Big Lick. In 1812 he moved to Mifflin Township and settled on Big Walnut Creek. He raised the first barn in the Township. Furnished information Columbus Chapter.  [Note: No marker found at Riverside Cemetery, there is a monument at Mifflin Township Cemetery]

 

 

BECKETT, HUMPHREY, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Born Apr 19 1758 Frederick Co, Va. Married Susannah Blann Battot, August 29 1778. Children: Richard M, Nelson W, James, Patsey, Ansel, Blan, Willey H, Jemina, William and Winson. Died September 1839 near Dublin, Franklin County, Ohio. Buried Old Cemetery adjoining Dublin. Enlisted January or February 1777. Pensioned July 6, 1818. Married in Albemarle Co, August 29, 1778. Private under Captain Chas. Porterfield and Colonel Morgan, State of Virginia. Three years in service. In battles of Somerset C.H., Amboy & Monmouth. Reference: Margaret A. P. BULL, THOMAS JR., (Franklin Co.)



Private in Captain Silas Goodrich Company Militia, Colonel Allin's Regiment. Born November 17, 1762, Manchester, Vermont. Died October 16, 1823 Clintonville. Buried Union Cemetery. Monument inscription: "Thomas Bull, Jr. Born Nov. 17, 1762 died Oct. 16, 1823." Grave marked by Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912. Moved from Manchester to Ohio and settled in Franklin County in 1814 on the present site of Clintonville. Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

CLOUSE, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Revolution from Pennsylvania. Born Germany 1758. Died in 1822, Plain Township. Buried in Smith Cemetery near New Albany. Monument inscription: "John Clouse. Died Dec 26, 1822, aged 64 yrs." Grave marked by D.A.R. with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. When a boy he ran away from home and stole passage on a ship to America, where he was sold for his passage. When the Revolution broke out, he was offered his freedom if he would serve in the army. Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

CRAWFORD, JAMES, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted Amherst, Nova Scotia, November 6, 1776, and while in command of a whale boat was captured by the British August, 1777, and carried to Halifax; kept 9 months, when he escaped and returned to Boston. Born Ireland April 10, 1757. Married Martha Dickey July 4, 1876. Died June 14, 1838, Reynoldsburg. Buried Old Seceeder Graveyard, 1 ½ miles south of Reynoldsburg. Grave marked by Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. Emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1763. Moved to Ohio in 1802 and settled in Reynoldsburg. CULBERTSON, ROBERT, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Lieutenant Colonel 1st Battalion Cumberland County Pennsylvania Associates. Born 1738. Died 1820, Franklinton, Ohio. National No 77678, Volume 78. D.A.R. Lineage.

 

 

DAGUE, MATHIAS, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Private in Pennsylvania Militia. Pensioned October 12, 1833. Born in Pennsylvania. Died February 16, 1847 in Plain Township. Buried in cemetery 2 miles from New Albany.  Monument Inscription "Mathias Dague. D Feb 16, 1847. Aged 86 years." Grave marked Revolution Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. Came from Pennsylvania in 1810 and settled n the southwestern part of Plain Township. Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

DAVIS, ANN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Was a messenger and carried orders from General Washington to the other commanders in the Revolutionary War in 1779 and 1780. Born 1863, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Married John Davis. Died June 6, 1851, Perry Township. Buried Old Davis Cemetery 1 mile below Dublin, east side of Scioto River. She is buried under the same monument with her husband. Monument inscription: "Ann Davis died June 6, 1851, aged 88 years, 5 months, 8 days. Ann Davis was a messenger and carried orders from General Washington t the other commanders in 1779 and 1780." Grave marked D.A.R. bronze marker, June 14, 1916. Ann Davis was a revolutionary heroine. Her maiden name was Ann Simpson and she was a cousin of the mother of General Grant. Columbus D.A.R. DAVIS, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted Henry Darrah's Company, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 1778. Captain in Pennsylvania Regiment. Served from 1777 to 1781. Born Montgomery County, Maryland 1761. Died 1832 Perry Township. Buried Old Davis Cemetery 1 mile below Dublin. Monument inscription: "John Davis died Jan 25, 1832, aged 71 years. 4 months and 18 days. John Davis was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and served from 1777 to 1781 in Pennsylvania Reg." On the side of the monument is the following: "Buck S.S. I do hereby certify that John Davis hath voluntarily subscribed to the oath of allegiance and fidelity as directed by an Act of the General Assembly of Pennsylvania passed the 1st day of October, 1779. Witness my hand and seal this 18th day of October, 1779. John Chapman." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. He came from Montgomery County, Maryland to Ohio in 1816 and settled in Delaware County, where he remained for two years. In 1818 he moved to Perry Township, 1 mile below Dublin on the east side of the Scioto River and lived here until his death. National No 99430, Volume 100, page 136, D.A.R. Lineage. DAVIS, SAMUEL, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted July 1776, 6 months; in 1777 for 1 month, in 1778 for 6 months; in 1779 for 4 months; in 1781 for 5 months. Born Litchfield, Connecticut, January 15, 1762. Died May 31, 1849 in Norwich Township. Buried Dublin Cemetery. Monument inscription, "Samuel Davis. born Jan 15, 1762 in Litchfield, Conn. Done service in the Revolution. Emigrated to Kentucky at the age of 19 years, employed as a spy to guard the infant settlement. Captured by the Indians, served in the war of 1812 as a Captain. Embraced religion at an early age and died in the Christian faith May 31, 1849." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912. During the War [of] 1812, he served in two expeditions to the Northwest. He came to Ohio soon after Wayne's Treaty and settled below Chillicothe.  In 1814 he removed to Franklin County and settled in Norwich Township.  After the Revolutionary War he was captured by Indians near Hamen's Sta, Kentucky 1786 and remained captive for 7 years. DENMORE, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Drummer Boy.  Enlisted March 1, 1780 in 6th Maryland Regiment in command of Major Landsell at Prince George's County, Maryland.  Was in the Battle of Guilford Court House, Camden, Entaw Springs and was wounded in the hand in the service. Born Prince George's County, Maryland, 1751.  Died November 28, 1838, Mifflin Township.  Buried Old Cemetery Mifflin Township [Mifflin Township Cemetery]. Monument inscription: "John Denmore died Nov 28, 1838, aged 87 years." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

DENUNE, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Drummer boy and soldier.  Enlisted March 1, 1780 in 6th Maryland Regiment in command of Major Landsell Prince George's Command.  Was in the battle of Guilford Court House, Camden, Eutaw Springs and Siege of Ninety Six.  Was wounded in the hand in the service. Served until June 1783.  Born 1761, France.  Married Sarah Burrell.  One child was Alexander Burrell Denune.  Died November 28, 1838, Franklin County, Ohio, aged 77 yrs.  Buried Riverside Cemetery, Mifflin Township, Sunbury Pike, near Linden Heights, Ohio, in Franklin County.  Monument Inscription: "John Denune died November 28, 1838, aged 77 yrs."  Grave marked by descendants and D.A.R. October 16, 1927.  Was from Prince George County, Maryland.  His name is on the marble tablet of Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County in Memorial Hall Lobby, Columbus.  Was pensioned in 1819 for service as Private in Maryland Continental Line.  Reference: National No 93797, Volume 94, page 247.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

ELLIOTT, ROBERT, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Adjutant in Militia 1778 in the Pennsylvania Militia.  Born Pennsylvania.  Died 1794.  Killed by roving band of Indians.  Buried in Ohio.  Reference: S.A.R. National No 49684, in Ohio Volume 50, D.A.R. Lineage.  Furnished information Cincinnati Chapter.

 

 

FOOS, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Captain Eyre's Company, 8th Company Pikeland Infantry, Chester County Militia commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Ball (Bell)?  Born Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1767.  Died Franklinton in 1803.  Buried Old Franklinton Cemetery.  Grave marked by Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker.  May 30, 1912. GRAHAM, WILLIAM, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Fought at Ticonderoga under Ethan Allen; Private New York Militia Colonel John Williams. Born 1750 near Belfast, Ireland.  Died 1822.  Buried near Reynoldsburg, Ohio.  Came to Ohio 1817.  Reference National No 66565 Volume 67 D.A.R. Lineage. Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

HESS, BOLSER, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served 7 years in Revolutionary Army from New York and Pennsylvania.  Born Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1741.  Died December 27, 1806.  Monument inscription: "Bolser Hess. Born 1841 died Dec 27, 1806, aged 65 years."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio in 1796 and settled in Ross County where he lived 4 years, then came to Clinton Township and settled in 1800.  Was a shoemaker and tanner by trade.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

HICKMAN, JOSEPH, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served through Revolutionary War.  Born Virginia about 1740.  Died 1821.  Buried at Ebenezer near Galloway.  Monument inscription: "Joseph Hickman died 1821."  Grave marked by Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio from Virginia in 1806 and settled near Galloway, Prairie Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

HOOVER, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served as Private in Pennsylvania Militia was pensioned April 5, 1833.  Born about 1742 in Pennsylvania.  Died near Grove City, 1840.  Buried on old Hoover farm near Grove City.  Monument inscription: "John Hoover, died 1840, aged nearly 100 years." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1807.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

HUFF, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Revolutionary War.  Born about 1750.  Buried on Amos Culp farm, Hamilton Township.  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio in 1807 and settled in Hamilton Township and lived on the Amos Culp farm. HUTCHINSON, AMAZIAH, (Franklin Co.)

 

           5 Connecticut Regiment 1781.  Born December 14, 1762.  Died October 3, 1823.  Married Betsey Mack, March 30, 1791.  Buried Dublin, Ohio.  Service, Page 161, Volume 8, Connecticut Historical Society Records.  Ohio State Library.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

INGALLS, JOSEPH, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in 6th Regiment, New York Infantry.  Pensioned March 15, 1834.  Born Dutchess County, New York, 1752.  Died August 13, 1834, Blendon Township.  Buried Jamison Cemetery, Blendon Township.  Monument inscription, "Joseph Ingalls died August 13, 1834, aged 82 years." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee.  Bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio in 1818 and settled in Blendon Twp.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

LEGG, ELIJAH, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Militia from Prince William County, Virginia.  Born Prince William County, Virginia in 1765.  Died September 24, 1852 in Perry Township.  Buried old Walcutt farm, Olentangy Road.  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio in 1815 from Virginia and settled in Perry Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

 

McCOMB, WILLIAM, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted Captain James McConnel's Company, Colonels Walle and Morgan, from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania July 20, 1776 at Ft. Washington siege.  Served as volunteer with Colonel Crawford on his expedition to Sandusky in 1782; also on the pension rolls of 1819, on the muster roll from Washington County, Pennsylvania.  Taken prisoner November 16, 1776; confined on prison ship "Jersey."  Paroled; re-enlisted 1787.  6th Battalion Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.  Born Washington County, Pennsylvania, 1757.  Died February 10, 1835, Truro Township.  Location of cemetery near Winchester pike.  Monument inscription, "William McComb.  Died February 10, 1835, aged 78 years." Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker.  September 1927.  D.A.R.  Came to Ohio from Washington County, Pennsylvania 1810; located on Walnut Creek abut 1 ½ miles from National Road.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

MOORE, BENJAMIN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in the 1st Regiment, Connecticut Infantry.  Born Windsor, Connecticut, March 1, 1756.  Died 1825.  Buried Jamison Cemetery, Blendon Township.  Monument inscription: "Benjamin Moore of Windsor, Hartford Co, Conn. Died Oct 16th. 1825."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee.  Bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio with his brother, Simon Moore in 1807 and settled in Blendon Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

MOORE, SIMEON, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in the 4th Regiment, Connecticut Infantry and fought in the battle of Bunker Hill.  Pensioned July 23, 1819.  Born Windsor, Connecticut March 20, 1760.  Died June 26, 1825.  Buried West Pioneer Cemetery, Blendon Township.  Monument inscription, "Died June 26, 1825, aged 64 years and 3 mos.  A soldier of 1776."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee.  Bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came with his brother to Ohio in 1807.  They lived with their old neighbors, the Phelps, while building their cabin in Blendon Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

MURPHY, WILLIAM, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Private Gloucester Company New Jersey Militia.  Born 1742, Gloucester County, New Jersey.  Died 1830 Franklin County, Ohio.  Reference:  National Number 96,079, Volume 97, page 27, D.A.R. Lineage.

 

 

NELSON, DAVID (Franklin Co.)

 

           1st Lieutenant in 8th Company, 4th Battalion Pennsylvania Militia.  Born November 30, 1752 in southeastern Pennsylvania, Mifflintown.  Died October 29, 1829 in Columbus.  Buried in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Monument inscription, "David Nelson. born Nov 30, 1752 and died October 29, 1929. " Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came from Pennsylvania and located in Marion Township near Alum Creek in 1799.  Reference:  Volume 33, page 118.  National No. 1999, and National No. 33,522, D.A.R. NOBLE, SETH, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Private in Captain Dyer's Company and Captain West's Company, Massachusetts Militia.  Born 1743 in Massachusetts.  Died 1807 at Franklinton.  Buried Old Franklinton Cemetery.  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 1912.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

OLMSTEAD, FRANCIS, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Colonel Webb's Regiment Continental Line as Ensign in Captain John F. Wyllis' Company from 1778 to 1781.  Born Simsburg, Connecticut, in 1760.  Died 1828, Blendon Township.  Buried in Central Cemetery, Blendon Township, two miles southeast of Central College.  Monument inscription, "Died Jan 21, 1828, in the 68th yr of his age."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee.  Bronze marker May 30, 1912.  Emigrated to Ohio with his family of sons in 1810, and settled in Blendon Township, Franklin County.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

 

PHELPS, EDWARD, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in the 8th Company, 1st Regiment, Connecticut Infantry.  Born August 27, 1759, Windsor, Connecticut.  Died August 10, 1840, Blendon Township.  Buried Central Cemetery, Blendon Township.  Monument inscription, "The son of Timothy Phelps, the son of Cornelius Phelps, the son of Timothy Phelps, the son of William Phelps, who was one of the first settlers of Windsor, Conn.  Said Edward Phelps was born August 27, 1759, in Windsor, Conn, and emigrated to the State of Ohio in 1800, and died Aug 10, 1840, aged 81 years."  Grave marked by D.A.R. Bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio with his family in 1806 and settled in Blendon Township.  Reference National No 87620, Volume 88, D.A.R. Lineage. PINNEY, ABNER, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served as Drummer in Captain Roberts Company, 18th Regiment Connecticut Troops.  He afterward was given the title Captain.  Born 1749 in Connecticut.  Died November 23, 1804.  Buried Old Episcopal Cemetery, Worthington.  Monument inscription, "Capt Abner Pinney died Nov 23, 1804 in the 55th year of his age."  "Here Abner Pinney lies, the kind, the just.  His flesh is turning to its kindred dust.  Love, friendship dwelt within his faithful heart.  Yet from his dearest friend was called to part.  And now, we trust, he's landed on that shore, where death ne'er comes and friends shall part no more."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio and settled in Worthington in 1804.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

PRICE, STEPHEN R., (Franklin Co.)

 

           Was a Sergeant in 2nd Regiment, Maryland Line.  Received a medal for bravery at Stony Point.  Was pensioned September 1, 1825.  Born Radmanshire, Wales, in 1757.  Died May 22, 1832.  Buried on Enieg's Hill, one mile from Gahanna.  Monument inscription, "Stephen R. Price died May 22, 1832, in the 76th year of his age."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  He was educated in London, England, for the ministry.  When 19 he ran away to America, enlisted in the army and fought throughout the war.  Came to Ohio from Virginia in 1815 and settled in Mifflin Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

RUGG, MOSES, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in the 10th and 3rd Massachusetts Regiment until 1783.  Born 1759 in Massachusetts.  Died April 21, 1832 in Blendon Township.  Buried Riverside Cemetery, Parks Mills.  Monument inscription, "Moses Rugg.  Born 1759.  Died April 21, 1832.  He was a Revolutionary soldier, whose memory is honorable."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee.  Bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

SELLS, LUDWICK, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Captain Martin Bowman's Company.  See Pennsylvania Archives 1777, 1780 in Assembly.  Born Huntington County Pennsylvania in 1743.  Parents:  John Sells and Sarah Haak.  Married Catherine Deardorf, 1770.  Children: Samuel B., John, Benjamin, Peter, Mary, Sophia, Margaret, William H., and George.  Died at Dublin, Franklin County, Ohio October 13, 1823.  Buried Odd Fellows Cemetery, Dublin, Ohio.  First large marker entering Cemetery.  Monument inscription, "In memory of Ludwick Sells, born Huntington PA, 1743.  Settled Franklin Co., 1798.  Died 1823.  Erected by  his descendants Sept 10, 1915."  By large monument and bronze tablet.  September 10, 1915.  Farmer.  Came to Franklin County 1798.  Came over mountains to Pittsburgh.  Bought flat boat and poled up Scioto River.  Moved to Dublin.  First Court held in his home.  Member of Pennsylvania Assembly in 1780.  One of Pioneer settlers of county.  Name on Memorial Tablet in Memorial Hall as Revolutionary Soldier and Pioneer of county.  Reference:  National No 87668, Volume 88, page 203, D.A.R. SMITH, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           He was a member of the 1st Regiment, Continental Line of New Jersey.  First enrolled in Morris Co Mill under Colonel Jacob Drake; then served in a Battalion of State Troops commanded by Colonel Jacob Ford, Jr. and then in the 1st Regiment, Continental Line.  Born 1742.  Passaic County, New Jersey.  Married Sarah Snider.  Died May 24, 1813 in Plain Township.  Buried in Smith Cemetery 2 miles from New Albany.  Grave marked by D.A.R. bronze marker May 30, 1912.  Came to Ohio from New Jersey in 1813 and located in the southeastern part of Plain Township.  Reference: National No 60867 D.A.R. Lineage.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

SPRAGUE, FREDERICK, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted in Connecticut as Private, March 1779 to December 1779, under Colonel Meigs; re-enlisted 1781; at Stony Point and Johnstown; also 3 months under Captain Clark, Colonel Willet.  Born 1752, Vermont or Nova Scotia.  Parents: Major Joshua Sprague (Revolution Officer), Abigail Wilbur.  Married Rebecca Nichols 1782, Connecticut.  Had 15 children:  David, Nancy, Ellis, Rebecca, Joshua, John, Catherine, Abagail, infant, infant, Jacob, infant, Austin E., Mary Maria, Frederick N.  Died 1837, January 4, Truro Township, Franklin County.  Buried Truro.  Monument inscription: name, birth, age.  Grave Marked Daughter Mary; and D.A.R., Columbus, Ohio, pensioned 1818.  Reference:  Jessie Barr, Columbus, Ohio.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

STARR, JOHN (Franklin Co.)

 

           Volunteered service in the fight at Ft. Griswold, 1781; was wounded.  Born 1743, Groton, Connecticut.  Married Mary Sharp.  Died 1824, Columbus, Ohio.  Reference:  National No 66967, Volume 67, page 351, D.A.R. Lineage.

 

 

STARRETT, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           He served in Pennsylvania Militia and was pensioned April 15, 1833.  Born Chester County, Pennsylvania, March 14, 1757.  Died Mifflin Township January 25, 1840.  Buried in cemetery at Gahanna [Mifflin Township Cemetery].  Monument inscription, "In Memory of John Starrett, who was born in Chester Co., Pa., on the 14th day of March 1757, A.D. and after spending a long life as a pilgrim, traveller and sojourner in the world, he calmly resigned his life and bid adieu to this world and its pleasures on the morning of the 15th of January 1840, in the hope of a blessed immortality beyond the grave at the advanced age of 82 years, 10 months and 1 day."  Grave Marked by D.A.R. 1912.  Came to Ohio from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1918 and settled in Mifflin Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

STEVENSON, JOHN, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Captain; Lieutenant Baltimore County, Maryland.  Mine Run Hundred, Maryland Archives, Volume II, page 428.  Born March 17, 1757, Baltimore County, Maryland.  Parents: John and Susanna Stevenson.  Married Mary Havenor; twice married.  Children:  John, Richard, Zachariah, Edward, Susannah, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Basil, Sarah, Rachel, George K., Mary, Anna, Hannah, William, Joshua, and Matilda.  Died September 11, 1831, Madison Township, Franklin County, buried near Canal Winchester on his farm.  Monument inscription, "In memory of John Stephenson who departed this life Sept 11, 1831, aged 74 yrs 5 mo, 25da."  Grave Marked Columbus D.A.R. marker.  Brave courteous, commanding; a Christian gent.  Came to Ohio, 1799.  Farmer; life-stock shipper, gave ground and helped build church.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

WAIT, JENKS, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Private in Captain Angell's Company, Colonel Hitchcock's Rhode Island Regiment.  Born 1756, Rhode Island.  Married Sarah Brown (see National No 70866 D.A.R.) Died 1824, Franklinton, Ohio.  Pension 1818, Franklin County for service as Private in Lexington Battle.  Reference:  National No 75341,Volume 76, D.A.R. Lineage.

 

 

WALCUTT, WILLIAM, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Enlisted in 5th Maryland Continental, May 7, 1778.  Taken prisoner February 10, 1781.  Pensioned May 12,1820, as a Private in Maryland Continental.  Born Talbot County, Maryland, in 1760.  Died June 23, 1833, Columbus.  Buried Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus.  Monument inscription, "William Walcutt, Soldier of the American Revolution, took part in the battles of Stony Point, was at Valley Forge and the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Moved to Ohio with his family in 1815 and settled in Franklin County.  Reference:  National No 48093, page 45, Volume 49, D.A.R. WEBSTER, PHILOLOGAS, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served in Captain Asa Braif's Company, Colonel Hooker's Regiment, Connecticut Militia in 1777.  Born Hartford, Connecticut, in 1758.  Died May 24, 1824, at Clintonville.  Buried Cook's Cemetery, Clintonville [moved to Green Lawn Cemetery].  Monument inscription, "Philologas Webster, died May 24, 1824, aged 66 yrs."  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker, May 30, 1912.  Came with his sons to Ohio in 1812 from Hartford, Connecticut, by wagon and were 3 months en route.  Settled in Clinton Township.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.

 

 

WHITE, SAMUEL, (Franklin Co.)

 

           Served seven years in Revolutionary War.  Was scalped at Stony Point by Indian, and left for dead.  Born Virginia about 1750.  Died from injuries received in a runaway.  Buried Union Cemetery near Briggsdale.  Grave marked Revolutionary Grave Committee with bronze marker May 30, 1912.  Came from Virginia to Ohio in 1805.  Furnished information Columbus Chapter.
